Nintendo Boss Suggests Wii U Second GamePad Play is a Possibility (But Not Soon)

Reggie Fils-Aime, the energetic President of Nintendo America, has spoken again of the new Wi U console’s potential for dual GamePad play – thus allowing two players to use separate HD touchscreen controllers simultaneously on the same title. The “Regginator” has said that this will become a possibility, but it will be “well after launch for those game experiences to come to life”.

Suggesting in an interview with Gamasutra that time is needed for game developers to get to grips with one controller first before extending play to multiplayers with the new platform, Reggie says “Asymmetric gameplay is going to be the next major step forward, just like active play was when we launched the Wii. We think that’s where developers will focus first, then there will be multiple experiences that have two GamePads.”

As we saw demonstrated at the E3 Expo with games such as ZombiU and Batman: Arkham City – Armoured Edition, the GamePad offers complex new features and real-time content to the gaming experience, which this will of course take game makers a bit of time to wrap their creative minds around and make the very best of their offerings on the platform.

The NoA Boss went on to say that he had been approached by fans about fantastic opportunities provided by the touchscreen gamepad for franchises such as Pokemon, and that buyers of the new Wii U will be pleasantly surprised by the gaming gadget’s price when it launches in time for Christmas.
