Nokia cancels Nokia 600 Symbian smartphone

You may remember that back in August, Nokia announced three new Symbian based smartphones with the Symbian Belle update.

However, Nokia has decided that one of the three new handsets – the Nokia 600, will not be released.

The Nokia 600 was expected to go on sale for around 180 Euros, it had respectable features including a 1Ghz processor, a 5MP camera, NFC as well as Bluetooth/Wi-Fi/GPS what you’d expect from a smartphone these days. However, Nokia has said that “After careful consideration we have decided not to ship the Nokia 600 to markets, we are constantly continuing to refine our portfolio to bring consumers the best possible range of devices to meet their diverse needs.”

I think Nokia realised that the 600 never really stood a chance of success when Nokia announced the new 603 around two months later. Albeit quite similar to the 600, the 603 does have a slightly larger screen size, therefore more likely to appeal to the end user.

Although Nokia say they have cancelled the 600, you never know, perhaps it may see light of day at a later date – maybe with Windows Phone instead of Symbian.
