In a move that is most likely to keep up with Google Earth, Nokia has today launched a new beta of its Ovi Maps service which now adds a new 3D layer.
The new beta is ready to test now, although you’ll have to download the 11MB plug-in. Once installed, you will then have a choice of viewing 3D imagery from up to 20 cities including London.
The new beta will allow you to change your view from birds-eye all the way down to street level with a 360 degree panoramic view.
Nokia has teamed up with a company called C3 to use its 3D mapping technology, which works by shooting the same object from around 100 different angles, and the software will then use some clever algorithms to product a seamless 3D photo-realistic environment.
