Nokia has announced the regions which will get the first batches of the impressive camera phone it flashed at the Mobile World Congress back at late February/early March. The Pureview 808 boasts and whopping 41-megapixel shooter and Carl Zeiss lens and which puts a number of dedicated DSLR cameras to shame.
With pre-orders recently being taking in Italy, we’d have been led to believe that this was where the snap happy Nokia Pureview 808 would surface first, but straight from the Finn’s mouth this belief has been denied and Nokia states that the opening shipments will actually arrive in Russia around the end of May, with a price tag of around £500 SIM-free. This means the gadget drifts a little further away from us here in the U.K, where we’re yet to hear any release news. Before we forget, Nokia’s Pureview 808 is also a phone! – and to focus in its respectable credentials as mobile, the gadget features a 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display, 1.3GHz CPU with 512MB of RAM and 16GB of storage.
The Pureview 808 runs on Nokia’s native Symbian operating platform, but heads are now turning to the company’s partnership with Microsoft suggesting that the next Pureview gadgets will actually feature the Windows Phone OS as found on the popular Lumia range.
