O2 has announced for the third time that it will be delaying the release of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play, this time pushing it back another month until June.
Chief Tester at O2 Stuart Hibberd confirmed in O2’s latest blog post that “the end is in sight” for testing with the XPERIA Play, and the network expects to release the handset to the public “at the start of June”.
The Playstation/Android mashup handset originally went on sale in the UK on March 29th, but both O2 and Vodafone delayed releasing the handset due to software issues being found during pre-sales testing. O2 posted another blog midway through April confirming that they had received new device software from SE and it was working well, but since then we’ve heard nothing on a release date.
Hopefully we’ll see the XPERIA Play finally available for o2 customers shortly, which will see them join Vodafone, Three, Orange, T-Mobile and Virgin who are currently offering the handset on contract.
