PS4 1.75 update Now arriving – Adds 3D Blu-Ray Support

We’ve seen what the extensive update schedule for the Xbox One is going to look like, with updates coming every month until at least October, but what about the Playstation 4? Well a new patch from Sony has just come out for the top dog console, and not surprisingly the PS4 is all set to beat the Xbox One in the race to be the first next-gen console to include support for 3D blu rays, amongst other updates.

Although the 3D blu ray feature came to the PS3 what seems like years ago, way back when 3D was the big thing in the industry, before being succeeded by the new Smart TV and 4K Ultra HD buzzwords, the inclusion in the PS4 means that those odl 3D Blu Rays can finally be played on a modern gaming device, as long as you have a compatible TV.

Your friendly neighbourhood Blu-Ray disc.

The update also sees an improvement in sound quality when you’re watching TV or a movie at 1.5x speed. Why you ask? Well some people like to rewind or fast forward to the exact point they left the room to go put the kettle on, down to each individual line of dialog. True story. Being able to hear sound at 1.5x speeds also allows you to make movies shorter by speeding them up without sacrificing sound quality. HAs anyone ever done this? Do you guys like squeaky sped up voices?

The update is live now, so get to updating that console. Here’s a complete list of changes you can expect to see.

Change list:

  • Playback of Blu-ray 3D is now supported.
  • Sound quality has been improved during 1.5x playback with Blu-ray Disc™ and DVD videos.
  • System messages previously displayed on the top-right corner of the screen are now displayed on the top-left corner of the screen.
  • [Featured Content] has been added to (Settings) > [System] > [Automatic Downloads and Uploads]. When this setting is enabled, featured content from the PlayStation Store is automatically downloaded while the PS4 system is either powered on or in standby mode. To download while in standby mode, go to (Settings) > [Power Save Settings] > [Set Functions Available in Standby Mode], and then turn on [Connect to the Internet].
