Not wanting to be outdone by Canon and their new C300 cinema camera, RED decided to also announce a new model called Scarlet which now records in full 4K resolution.
The Scarlet provides 4096 x 2160 pixel resolution for video and a very impressive 5120 x 2700 for still images; this is combined with a frame rate of up to 120fps.
For the professional, it’s likely that the Scarlet would be more appealing than the C300 from a technical point of view as the Scarlet is capable of shooting 1K at 120fps, while the C300 can only output 1080p even with its 4K sensor.
The RED Scarlet also comes with EF and PL mounts, although the PL version will be a bit more expensive than the EF. Other features of the camera include a 5K burst mode at 12fps, while also being able to capture 4K at 30fps – pretty impressive to say the least.
RED accessories are fully compatible with the Scarlet, so you’ll be able to adapt the camera to fit your shoot perfectly.
Prices for the RED Scarlet start at £6,000 which includes an SSD. If you want a kit which includes a battery, controller and LCD, you can expect to pay around £8,700. So, if you fancy getting your hands on this beast, it starts shipping on the 17th November.
