RIM rebrands itself corporately as ‘BlackBerry’

Here’s something we didn’t expect to hear at the BlackBerry 10 event – Research in Motion, or RIM as it is known, has rebranded the entire company as simply ‘BlackBerry’.

CEO Thorsten Heins revealed the change at the global BlackBerry 10 launch before proceeding to reveal new phones and the operating system itself.

Whilst it’s not something we expected to happen, it’s a change that makes complete sense. Unless you’re a big BlackBerry fan or you work in the mobile industry, it’s unlikely that you’re aware that BlackBerry isn’t actually the company behind the smartphone – it’s just a brand.

So from now on RIM is no more, and the company will continue as BlackBerry, to make things easier for everyone.
