Samsung to drop out of Windows Phone race after 2012?

Samsung looks set to lead the charge for the Windows Phone 7.5 update, aka ‘Mango’ – with a version of the hugely popular and powerful smartphone Galaxy S II set to play host to the latest mobile Microsoft operating software. However, doubt has been shed on Sammy’s longevity in the WP7 race, after an online source this weekend tweeted the following:

“Samsung will support Windows Phone till end 2012”

The tweetards behind the account @SamFirmware have the tech world wondering what this exactly means, but taking it literally this seems to suggest that Samsung’s run with Microsoft will only last as long as late next year The tech-alliance was launched back in October 2010 with the release of the Samsung Omnia 7 and Focus mobile handsets both providing a platform for the Windows Phone software and both delivering the superior AMOLED screen display.

With the first (and only?) Samsung WP7 ‘Mango’ handset due before Christmas this year we have to wonder what the year ahead will bring if this speculation becomes a reality. Is Samsung set to play the opener then hand over the Windows Phone show to the likes of Nokia, HTC and Fujitsu? (which already has one Mango release in Japan).

In our humble opinions we don’t see Samsung being a support act. And after all, this is still unconfirmed..
