Last night Sony unleashed a new firmware update for its PlayStation 3 games console. The 4.25 software version update was pushed out live to connected PS3 consoles and will expand the console’s cloud storage limits.
At this year’s Gamescom gaming conference in Cologne, Germany, Sony announced that PlayStation Plus users would get 1 gigabyte of cloud storage space in a future update. The update will increase the cloud storage from the current 150 megabyte limit to a full gigabyte (which equals 1,024 megabytes) by adding a further 874 megabytes to the cloud capabilities.
Once the PS3 firmware 4.25 is installed, you’ll find that all your existing game saves previously uploaded to the Cloud will be in their folders, and the increase from 150MB to 1GB has taken place.
“After you’ve installed the update, simply go to the Saved Data Utility under the Game column of the XMB,” Sony VP Eric Lempel explained on the Playstation Blog. “From there you can access the Online Storage folder and find any existing game saves already uploaded, as well as the increase in space to 1GB. So set your automatic download to upload every game save for every compatible game you play and enjoy the additional breathing room. You can also continue to use this feature to selectively upload game saves you specify”
The update is now live on the PS3 so should come through automatically when you turn on your PS3 and hook it up to the internet.
