Sony has been a bit quiet on the Android Jelly Bean front for its current range of Xperia smartphones, but today the company has outlined its forward moving plan for which handsets and when the latest Android OS will be arriving.
First off, the bad news is that all users will have to wait until 2013, but with this just a few weeks away the sting isn’t that bad.
First up to get the Android 4.1 update are the Sony Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V, which are all set to start to receive the Jelly Bean 4.1 update during February and March of 2013.
Next in line is the slightly older Xperia P, Xperia J and Xperia Go, who will all be upgraded at the end of March 2013, and then finally the Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia Ion and Xperia Acro S will get the update in the subsequent weeks after. But Jelly Bean goodness isn’t coming to all handsets as Sony has announced that the Xperia U, Xperia Miro, Xperia Tipo, and Xperia Sola will not be getting the upgrade and will thus not be moved further than their Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 current software.
Sony has been pretty slow on the update to Jelly Bean and its previous update, and with handsets such as the Xperia J and Xperia T both coming out Jelly Bean-less, the company still has some timing issues to sort out for future smartphones.
However, it is better knowing a rough estimate of when you are getting the update (or if you won’t receive it at all) to your smartphone. Additionally, customers with network-branded Xperia phones may still have to wait longer for networks to release a branded version of the 4.1 OS.
