Tomb Raider 2013: British Actress Camilla Luddington Cast as New Voice of Lara Croft

The new voice of Lara Croft has been announced and after an international talent search which spanned the U.K and Europe as well as the United States.

And it’s only appropriate that a Brit-born Camilla Luddington has now been cast as the future British archaeologist-stroke-adventurer who will go through some truly harrowing ordeals in a new origin story when the rebooted Tomb Raider game arrives for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Windows PC on March the 5th 2013.

Luddington, who previously played Prince William’s bride Kate Middleton in a recent television production and is now appearing in popular U.S vampire show True Blood, will provide the tones of the Tomb Raider heroine as she explores and escapes a scavenger ridden island after surviving an airplanes crash. Players will have to help a vulnerable Lara Croft outwit traps and contraptions as well as fend off foes using only basic survival skills. Camilla will also provide the physical actions which will be motion-captured for Lara in digital form.

“This has been one of the most important jobs for us to get right” said Crystal Dynamics – the new Tomb Raider development company that sought to bring a realism and compelling emotion to the character and which recently came under heavy fire for the game’s mature themes. The Lara Croft we see in the 2013 release will be a much different character than the gaming icon as we last saw her and one who is only just learning all the tricks we took for granted in the previous Tomb Raider games.

The 28-year-old actress from Ascot will also be the face of the games promotion as Tomb Raider heads to the San Diego Comic Con between the 12th and 15th of July and Camilla follows in the footsteps of Rhona Mitra who embodied Lara Croft to promote the Sony Playstation, Sega Saturn and Windows PC release of the 1996 original. Lara was also portrayed by Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie in the 2001 film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and its 2003 sequel subtitled The Cradle of Life.

The Gadget Helpline has put all the Lara Crofts – Mitra, Jolie and new girl Luddington – together for a very important social poll over at our Facebook page and invite our readers to join in, telling us which of these beauties best personifies our beloved gaming heroine!
