Virgin Media will be trialling the popular streaming platform Netflix as part of its TiVo service, according to a report from BBC News.
Only 40,000 Virgin subscribers will be invited to use Netflix using a new app which will be available through the TiVo set-top box. Those who accept and take part in the trial will need to have or will need to sign up for a £5.99 per month Netflix account to access the hundreds of movie and TV titles on offer including exclusives such as Hemlock Grove and Orange is the New Black.
Netflix also boasts the latest episodes of top telly show Breaking Bad just hours after they air in the United States and is currently available on a range of devices, from Smart TVs to games consoles and tablets.
The selected Virgin customers will receive their invite letters this week and can begin using the Netflix app soon after. Netflix will be available to all of Virgin’s 1.7-million TiVo subscribers by the end of the year and this will mark the first time any cable provider has offered the streaming service as part of a bundle.
We’re awaiting Sky’s comeback, possibly a partnership with rival brand LoveFilm? Who knows.
