Online retailer Amazon has issued a recall on some UK and Ireland chargers/power adapters supplied with its own branded Kindle Fire tablets – including its recently launched Kindle Fire Kids Edition.
Concerns were raised when it was found that in some ‘rare cases’ the power adapters for these products can cause electric shocks when the USB lead is removed from the three pin plug. The plug itself has been identified as the cause of the problem and customers are being advised they can still use the USB lead part quite safely with another compatible plug or with a computer/laptop but are being urged to replace the mains plugs, with replacements available free of charge by ordering one on the Amazon website.
Emails were issued today to anyone who has bought the Amazon Kindle Fire 7” and Amazon Kindle Fire 7” Kids Edition through the Amazon UK website from September 2015. But if the devices were purchased third party or second hand owners and parents may not be receiving this important information which includes how to identify to affected power adapter by the model number FABK7B. We have included the image below.
We are unsure at the moment how the replacement scheme works in regards to third party purchases.
