Thesp and tech-savvy celeb Stephen Fry has donated his recognisably well-spoken tones to TomTom, becoming the latest fan favourite to have his voice included on the GPS gadget.
The actor, comedian and QI host joins much-requested icons such as Brian Blessed, Darth Vader as well as Sesame Street duo Bert & Ernie and from today motorists can add Stephen’s sounds to their driving device for £7.95 through the TomTom website, inviting the trademark posh pronunciator to guide you through traffic and go around the roundabout to your heart’s content.
Fry has previously hosted his own top 100 Greatest Gadgets in which the TomTom sat nav reached only 22nd place. This isn’t quite as bad as fellow navigation voicer and motoring enthusiast Jeremy Clarkson, who slammed devices like TomTom on his series Top Gear, saying that “Everyone can navigate by instinct, and if you can’t there’s something wrong with you and you should be in prison. The only people who can’t navigate instinctively are women.”
Stephen Fry is also a regular tweeter and commands 3,523,430 followers on micro-blog site Twitter.
