WWE ’13 is going to be one to watch when the pre-Christmas gaming clash takes place this November and the game promises to take the pro-wrestling franchise back to the glory days of the infamous Attitude Era – a period from the mid-90s to very early-00s which lived up to its reputation and introduced mature themes and middle-fingers – lead by the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin – to a product once so clean cut with heroes like Hulk Hogan.
One of the defining moments of the Attitude Era was the involvement of former boxing champion Mike Tyson. Dubbed “The Baddest Man on the Planet”, Tyson became involved in a feud with Steve Austin and then WWF Champion Shawn Michaels leading up to the annual sports entertainment showcase Wrestlemania in 1998. WWE ’13 publisher THQ has announced that these classic moments can be relived as WWE Hall of Fame inductee Mike Tyson will appear in the new WWE ’13 video game and has provided us with some promotional artwork and screenshots of the tiger-owning karaoke king in action, as well as a sneak peak at the reveal trailer for his playable character.
In the video Tyson appears as his current battle-tested self, with tattooed face and wrapping his knuckles to once again take to the squared circle – he tells us not to worry, as he’ll be “splendid”. Walking through the curtain we see him emerge from the other side as his younger self, wearing D-Generation-X tank-top and we’re transported back to the arena of the classic 90s “RAW is WAR” television show – now Monday Night Raw. “Iron” Mike Tyson will be part of the digital content roll out that will become available through WWE ’13’s social reach on services like Xbox LIVE and the Playstation Network.
Mike Tyson will be joined by other stars of a time fondly remembered by wrestling fans, including Mankind, “Bad Ass” Billy Gunn and “Road Dogg” Jesse James in the new WWE ’13 game that will feature all the current stars like John Cena and reigning WWE champ CM Punk as cover star. We’re big fans of both WWE and Tyson so this comes as great news to an already great looking addition to the annual wrestle game series and we’re eagerly awaiting the games release on October 30th for Xbox 360, Playstation and Wii.
