EA Games LOVE the Wii U Controller, will be making games for release day

We weren’t entirely convinced by Nintendo’s new Wii U console and its fancy touchscreen controller, but it seems some people out there absolutely loved it – namely EA Games who were “blown away” by the device.

None other than Frank Gibeau, manager of EA Games, voiced his opinion and undying love for the innovative new Wii U controller. He told Gamesindustry.biz that he and EA Games were “blown away” by the touchscreen controller, and feel Nintendo have been more innovative than any other games console manufacturer yet.

The somewhat unusual Wii U controller incorporates a 6.2 inch 16:9 touchscreen with the classic Nintendo controller buttons, including A,B,X,Y, two analog pads, a D pad, 2 rear triggers and 2 shoulder buttons. The controller also features an accelerometer and gyroscope for motion-based games, allowing you to tilt it to control something on screen. There are also dual speakers, a microphone and a front-facing camera for interactive gaming – it’s all very much like a tablet.

Speaking of the Wii U with Gamesindustry.biz at the E3 event where it was announced, Frank said; “We were really blown away by the unique innovation that Nintendo brings with the Wii U controller on a high performance machine”.

“The ability to do HD graphics and access game experiences in a completely novel way and a way that’s never been seen before, it really struck our fancy.”

“We were excited by what Nintendo presented to us, we thought about it and it fits well with what we’re trying to do with our franchises like FIFA and Madden and Battlefield.

“There’s great horsepower there, great innovation and Nintendo’s got fantastic branding. We’re platform agnostic as a company so if we find something we believe will have success commercially and critically, and has a business model that works for us, we’re in.”

Gibeau confirmed at the event that EA Games will be developing major titles for the Wii U console, some of which will be available on release day.
