Ion, From the Creator of Dayz; I have no idea what this game is

The creator of DayZ, Dean Hall aka “Rocket”, appeared on stage today to announce his next project. Named Ion, it will be available first through Xbox’s newly announced early access program called Game Preview, which basically means early access on Xbox.

Dean Hall has now left Dayz production to run his own studio and create his own games, it’s a damn shame as far as DayZ fans are concerned and an odd turn of events seeing as he created the game.

I don’t even… what is this?

SO what is his new project? You tell me… Please? I’ve read numerous articles and watched the trailer several times but I have no idea. This doesn’t seem to resemble a game. “I wanted a game that wasn’t a game,” was what Hall told the audience at Xbox’s E3 press conference. Oh well that solves that problem them.

“For the past year I have been working with a team … to make my prototype into a long-term project. We have the technology to create this universe, but you — through Xbox One Game Preview — will govern its destiny.” Yep you lost me again.

Ion appears to be set in the distant future where humanity is spread among the stars. The teaser ended with a shrink-wrapped man inside a frozen container. He could be Canadian, everything comes in bags there.

Even the press release didn’t really help; Ion is an emergent narrative massively-multiplayer online game in which players build, live and inevitably die in huge floating galactic constructions, tracing humanity’s first deadly steps towards colonizing the universe. Thanks to technology from Improbable, Ion is a massive interconnected universe with fully simulated real-time environments, including air pressure, heat and cold, power grids and much more, which all must be carefully balanced to keep the unending vacuum of space at bay.

So ok it cleared a few things up I think you live on a space station and sometimes some things go wrong and you need to fix them. Like a job. Well done Dean you made a job simulator. In all seriousness this man created Dayz so I’m sure he will pull it out of the bag and Ion will be amazing. But for now I’m confused so if anyone can explain let me know…
