Nintendo has announced today that two of its popular homemade franchises are about to get new additions in the latest Nintendo Direct vlog and both The Legend of Zelda and Yoshi’s Island series will receive sequels this year exclusively for Nintendo’s portable 3DS platform.
A new game in classic adventure/puzzle series The Legend of Zelda will be based in the same world as A Link to the Past which nostalgic gamers will remember fondly and debuted on Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) back in 1992. The new title will again feature jade clad hero Link and will of course benefit from the Nintendo 3DS’s three-dimensional graphic capabilities which previously have resurrected The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for a new generation. The game proved to be one of the saving graces of the Nintendo 3DS’s teething period and the Gadget Helpline is eager to continue the quest when this game is launched at some point in 2013!
A video teaser of the new Legend of Zelda game is expected to follow the exciting announcement today as is more information relating to another Yoshi’s Island game, also for Nintendo’s current handheld platform, which will bring back Super Mario’s friendly green dinosaur in his very own adventure, and to be joined again by Baby Mario. The original Yoshi’s Island launched on SNES in 1995 as the sequel to Super Mario World, and soon hatched a stand alone title on GameBoy Advance and this will be the third game in a spin-off series. Players will be able to utilise all of the dino’s unique moves and many new actions especially thrown in for the 3DS game.
