Chart topping Call of Duty sales for 2014 were revealed in the announcement.

Market analysts over at NPD have recently released their latest update on the state of all things bought and sold in the gaming world, as they are wont to do every month. however, this time the analytics company has compiled and released the entire sales statistics for the top ten bestselling titles of 2014.

First things first, looking at the chart for the year, it’s easy to see who got the top spot in terms of publishing – Activision kept their dominant spot at the top of the list – a spot they’ve been sitting on since at least November last year. Top titles such as Call Of Duty, Destiny and Skylanders have been a great success for the company in the previous year, and even last year’s title Ghosts has remained in the yearly chart thanks to January sales in 2014.

As for platforms, the top five best sellers are all multiple platform titles with two of them not only being old and new generation console titles but also PC titles too. Minecraft is fast exceeding original expectations for the build and explore title, with great performance within the console market adding to the prestige of developer Mojang’s recent buyout by Microsoft.

The new Super Smash Bros also performed exceptionally in this year’s charts.

Sports titles FIFA and Madden have both remained strong in the charts, although the US football title outperformed the European football title by a long way. Meanwhile, a hugely popular rising star, the new Super Smash Bros., brought Nintendo back from what seemed like a year of woe in 2014. Indeed the new title is becoming somewhat of a sport itself.
