Want a new iPad 2 but want to stand out from the crowd? If you have a spare 8-million dollars or 5-million pounds burning a hole in your pocket, designer and customizer Stuart Hughes of Liverpool, England will sell you a solid gold, diamond encrusted version of the tablet, which even claims to include fragments of 65-million year old dinosaur bone – Truly a handheld beast to behold!
Hughes has been in the business a while and has pimped out everything from Mac Books and mobiles to pianos and luxury yachts. The iPad2 was clearly the next step.
No gold plating here, he has literally rebuilt the thing out of gold. The iPad 2’s aluminium casing has been replaced with solid 24-carat gold casing, weighing 2000-grams and features the Apple logo in flawless diamonds. The front of the iPad is made of shaped ammolite, a rock which is 75-million years old.
But that’s far from all, as Hughes’ website boasts “To make this masterpiece even more individual, sections of a 65 million year old T-REX Dinosaur’s thigh bone was splintered and then shaved into the Ammolite”. And on top of that? Another enormous single diamond, weighing in at a whopping 8.5-carat.
The gadget looks stunning, and Hughes’ over-the-top luxury spin on the Apple iPad 2 was inevitable with such hype surrounding the must-have gadget and this will be over with high-rollers and rap stars, but to speak in British Pounds, five-million is a little bit of a stretch for all us Joe Publics!
You can however treat yourself to a look (and maybe have a little cry) at Hughes’ “Gold History Edition” iPad 2 and the rest of his pimped out range on his website – http://stuarthughes.com
