Player Unknowns Battlegrounds – Zombie Mode

  • by

Player Unknowns Battlegrounds (PUBG), if you have not heard of it yet you must be living under a rock.

PUBG, the fight for survival in a Battle Royale situation. As with the film that came out in 2000, PUBG drops a mass of people onto an island in a brutal fight to the death. If all goes well and you manage to reach the end intact then the grand prize awaits you, no less than a chicken dinner!

Original creator of the ARMA2 Battle Royale Mod; Brendan Greene was inspired to create when he realised that most multiplayer FPS games were just repetition. Each game was very similar to the last and the maps were small and easily remembered.

The rest is history. Since the ARMA2 mod it was adapted for ARMA3 and then SOE got wind of it. He was hired by SOE and was bought in as consultant to develop H1Z1. This game was then split into two:
H1Z1: Just Survive, and the battle royale-esque H1Z1: King of the Kill, around February 2016.

Soon after this a South Korean developer (Bluehole) offered Greene the chance to work on a new Battle Royale concept.

Thus Player Unknowns Battlegrounds came into being.

Brendans dreams fully realised, he is now creative director at Bluehole and PUBG is going from strength to strength.

Two additional maps are in development and have been since May 2017.  One is set on an island in the Adriatic Sea, and will include snow covered areas. The second is in the remains of a desert city, weathered by war and sandstorms.

Not content with being one of the most popular games on Twitch, the team behind the game have listened to the fans and are now developing Zombie Mode.

This came about after a couple of streamers played around with the custom games and had one set team of 4 with everyone else playing a zombie, melee only.

Chaos ensued, it was a lot of fun and the community came together in the hopes of having it implemented.

Zombie Mode is not playable yet but the team at Bluehole are working on it and we should be knee deep in Zombie carnage within a few months!
