Samsung Galaxy J1 2016 – Handset Renders Leaked

Samsung will again be aiming high this year and after topping the smartphone market with its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in 2015 we’re nearing the arrival of its successors, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge which are expected before the end of the first quarter. But that doesn’t mean the South Koreans will be abandoning its budget line-up and also planned for this year is a 2016 version of the Samsung Galaxy J1 which has now just emerged in picture leaks.

The Samsung Galaxy J1 is shown off in several detailed renders which come courtesy of Twitter tech pipeline Evan Blass (@evleaks). The handset’s appearance reflects its market value, particularly in the black casing. The white and gold finishes do make a good effort to try to emulate the quality look of Samsung’s premium handsets but more than a quick glance gives the game away. Not a bad thing, as it looks like they’re squeezing as much value in as possible into a handset that will only cost around £80. But the phrase ‘mutton dressed as lamb’ does spring to mind.

The Samsung Galaxy J1 will be low spec affair, with rumours suggesting that it will feature a 4.5-inch screen and likely a WVGA panel. The handset is also slated to come with Samsung’s own Exynos 3475 processor and carry just enough RAM at 1GB with an equally modest 4GB internal memory and we don’t expect an increase through MicroSD support.

With 5-megapixel main and front facing cameras it’s a simplistic smartphone with all the functions and that’s just the idea. But the Galaxy J1 is ideal for newcomers to Google’s mobile OS and those who want a secondary handset and they will get to enjoy a basic Android experience based on version 5.1, Jelly Bean.

Now that the leaks are out and with the Mobile World Congress little over a month away we think we might hear more about the Samsung Galaxy J1 2016 very soon.
