Samsung Hope Relay App Pays £1 Per Mile Walked, Ran or Cycled for Team GB Supported Charities

Alongside Samsung’s selection of perfectly performing Olympic calibre smartphones, including official gadget of the London 2012 Games – the Galaxy SIII – and O2’s exclusive Union Jack themed Galaxy Note and Galaxy Y, we’re also being invited to help Team GB’s favourite charities and win some cool prizes simply by taking our Android device with us when we walk, run and cycle.

The Samsung Hope Relay app is now available to download from Google Play (formerly the Android Market) on Sammy’s own devices, or any Android-based gadget. Using GPS the software records and reports your progress and with permission sends it to Samsung HQ, who then pays out £1 per mile accomplished in any journey made on foot or by cycle. You can check your distance and funds raised at anytime through the app. Sadly the GPS recording makes the idea a bit redundant for us avid treadmill users who actually make no real distance (despite our best efforts!)

To make the Samsung challenge a bit more socially involving the app allows us to team up with good buddies on Facebook and Twitter and you can share the relay amongst a team, or use the social features to give other participants a “cheer” for an extra push.

The scheme is being backed by Team GB, and sporting stars such as David Beckham who appears in the launch video. Check it out and join in by grabbing the app from the Google Play store!
