Update for Sony PSP suggests Playstation Store return is close?

New firmware for the Playstation Portable could suggest the online store will be returning to active duty after being rocked by the recent PSN outage and resulting pull by Sony.

The Playstation Network finally looks to be stable after weeks of rigorous security measures, patches administered and a tiresome password reset process – but up until now the Playstation Store has remained downed.

Virtual gift points and free games await owners of both PSP and PS3 who suffered intrusion to valuable account details including address and credit card information – and importantly, gaming withdrawal – when hackers were able to access the Sony online service in April.

Sony gamers should be able to access their goodies when the handheld gadget gets upgraded to software version 6.39 “soon”. The update requires a password reset and promises stability of a number of key features of the Playstation Portable – but no specifics are revealed in the official word, which says very little about what’s in store.
