Apple iPad Mini with Retina display goes on sale in the UK

When Apple revealed the long-awaited iPad Mini with Retina display last month, we got to learn every little detail about the upgraded second-generation model except the release date.

Those who had waited patiently until Apple did the iPad Mini right and added the sharper and brighter Retina display were left hanging on tenterhooks at the launch, with Apple giving a very vague launch date of “later in November”.

We’ve been on the lookout for stock availability and launch dates ever since and today, out of the blue, Apple has put the little tablet on sale. The Cupertino company has all models of its new iPad Mini available to buy from its web store today and if you’re quick – and depending on the model – you could have a shiny new gadget in your hands by the end of the week.

Shipping times for the 16GB and 32GB Wi-Fi only models are 1-3 days right now, with the 64GB and 128GB Wi-Fi models expected to ship within 5-10 days. All Wi-Fi + Cellular models are also shipping within 5-10 days, though with Christmas coming up and new Apple gadgets always being popular, we’re expecting these estimates to slip within the next day or two.

Those weighing up the choice between an original iPad Mini and the newer iPad Mini with Retina display will no doubt notice the difference in price; a 16GB Wi-Fi only iPad Mini costs £249 whilst the same model with Retina display will set you back a further £70 at £319. The main reason for the price hike comes in the name, with the new Retina display parts said to be a more costly part than the original iPad Mini’s standard definition display.

Other than the impressive screen upgrade, the new iPad Mini with Retina display features Apple’s new 64-bit A7 processor, dual band MiMo Wi-Fi and 4G connectivity and of course, iOS 7.

We’re expecting Apple stores and other retailers to start stocking the new models within the next few days.
