Batman: Return to Arkham Finally Set for October 18th Release

Following a troubled release, Rocksteady and WB Games have given a new date for Batman: Return to Arkham – a remastered HD collection of Arkham Asylum (2009) and Arkham City (2011) complete with all previous bonus content which will be available from the get-go on PS4 and Xbox One.

The delay from the originally intended July 26th release was thought to be due to the criticisms over the HD revamp of those classic Arkham games, which was thought not to be that much better graphically (if not worse) than the original versions on PS3 and Xbox 360 because of porting problems. Frame rate for the upgraded edition was also said to be to blame but the game looks to run smoothly now. There is however no news of a PC release at this time – again because of porting concerns.

To ensure quality and, as WB Games called it “a polished Batman Arkham experience”, the date was suspended shortly after the game was announced in May – but now the developers and publishers seem confident enough to set a date as well as post a new five-minute comparison video showing great improvement over what we saw in the last teaser. The comparison runs PS3 and PS4 HD footage side-by-side and shows marked improvements – particularly noticeable in the lighting and contrast, offering a much darker tone, just as we would expect from stepping into the Dark Knight’s world.

Batman: Return to Arkham will now go on sale on October the 18th, featuring the Caped Crusader as well as the whole Rogue’s Gallery of villains including Joker, Catwoman and Penguin. All original DLC from the last gen versions will be immediately unlocked offering a range of characters and alternate costumes to play with too.
