As you’ll probably know, one of the unique selling points of the new iPhone 4S is the addition of the new voice-activated assistant called Siri, which has proven to be quite popular amongst users of the latest iPhone thanks to its ability to pretty much understand and action any command you give it.
Now, if you happen to be someone who is desperate to get the new iPhone 4S due to the new feature but can’t because you’re tied into your current iPhone contract – there may be good news for you, as a clever developer has managed to port the voice assistant software across to the original iPhone 4.
Although, don’t expect any instructions/guides on how to do this just yet; even though developer Steve Troughton Smith has managed to get the port installed on the iPhone 4 via installing the iPhone 4S springboard files directly onto the original iPhone, it doesn’t work 100% right at the moment. The main and biggest problem getting it to fully work is the fact that it relies on Apple authenticating the iPhone 4 when the voice commands are sent to the Apple servers – something which understandably, they are not allowing.
But evidently, the video below proves that there doesn’t seem to be any technical reason as to why Siri cannot run on the iPhone 4 – the A4 processor is powerful enough, so we’re not entirely sure as to why Apple have decided not to include Siri in the recent iOS 5 update for the iPhone 4 – but I’m sure they have their reasons.
