Xbox LIVE App Launched For Apple’s iOS – iPhone and iPad Got Game

Straight from the keyboard of Microsoft’s “Major Nelson” himself comes news that Xbox LIVE is now available for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. You hear correctly – Microsoft’s online gaming platform on Apple’s most famous gadgets. And you can try it for yourself via the iTunes App Store from today.

It’s a truly bizarre sight to see the familiar Microsoft uniform of tiles flash up on the screen of an iPhone, as the recently refreshed Xbox LIVE Dashboard interface comes to life on a host device manufactured by a famously competitive computing rival. The app links Xbox with iPhone and features all the tools needed to edit profile and avatar, message friends over the LIVE community (with pop up keyboard), as well as organise and manage those friends into lists and invite new gamers to become pals.

The Xbox LIVE app for iOS also offers the chance to share your achievements in top games such as Saints Row: The Third and Gears of War 3 and view the newest clips and trailers of upcoming games for Xbox 360 consoles with the Spotlight Feed. Everything’s here but the Marketplace and Microsoft promises that gamers can “Take your Xbox LIVE experience wherever you go”.

“Major Nelson”, real name Larry Hryb, lived up to his five-star “Rep” by delivering the news earlier this afternoon via the Director of Programming’s own website. The Xbox LIVE app then went live on the App Store compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices packing iOS 4.3 and above. And if that’s not good enough news on its own – it’s app-solutely free to download.

Let’s pray that this version of Xbox LIVE is not privy to the same disconnection errors as it’s console-based sibling. Read more about that sitiuation in the Gadget Helpline’s coverage – Here.
