iPad newspaper The Daily to arrive on UK digital newsstand

We in the UK may soon be able to “read all about it” on our iPads when digital newspaper The Daily hits our app stores before the middle of this year.

Currently only available in the United States, the slab-based rag will soon arrive on our Apple gadgets and soon take on other parts of the world, so says chief digital officer for The Daily, Jonathan Miller, at the announcement at Abu Dhabi Media Summit:

“Western Europe is up first in not too long from now,” he said, also stating “As other tablets get established we will develop the technology to get on them. We expect to be on all major tablets. But we see this year and next year belonging to Apple.”

It seems all we are waiting on is the platform to do this, and then The Daily will go live in the UK, with purchases being made through the iTunes store.

At the moment this is free to US readers, however the plan is to begin charging next week with prices starting from 99 cents for a week’s worth of The Daily or a $39.99 yearly subscription to the digi-paper (that’s around 11 cents a day).

However, so far nothing suggesting that such a courtesy period will be given when The Daily goes into publication in the UK within the next couple of months, or any details of the price when it finally hits the digital newsstand.

How do you feel about downloading your daily news? Could world events, sports and more at the touch of an iPad be the beginning of the end for the old chip wrapper?
